Heart Radio

Heart is best known for Jamie Theakston’s breakfast show but there’s a lot more to enjoy like Emma B’s drive time show and Club Classics every Friday and Saturday night from 6pm. Heart brings you the best in contemporary music.

Heart 106.2 is an independent local radio station based in London and specialising in adult contemporary music. It is owned by Global Radio UK, and its motto is ‘More Music Variety’.

Heart 106.2 is part of the Heart Network that also includes 100.7 Heart fm based in Birmingham and Heart 106 which broadcasts to the West Midlands. Heart 106.2 was launched in 1996 when the network was owned by Chrysalis. The first song to be broadcast was Simply Red’s ‘Something Got Me Started’.

As well as broadcasting on FM, Heart is available on DAB digital radio in London and throughout the UK on Sky Digital, Freeview and Virgin Media cable. Heart was available to listeners around the world until April 2006 when licensing laws forbid broadcasting outside of the UK.

Ratings in 2005 placed Heart 106.2 ahead of 95.8 Capital FM as the most popular commercial radio station in London by number of listeners and audience share. This was the first time Capital FM had been ousted from the top spot in its thirty two years on air.

Heart was rebranded in September 2006 with a new jingle. ‘This is Heart’ replaced the old ‘London’s Heart 106.2’.

The station is famous for its breakfast show hosted by Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott. Jono Coleman was fired after low audience figures and moved to Heart’s sister station LBC 97.3 FM. Jono received a live telephone call from then-Prime Minister Tony Blair during his last breakfast show on 24th March 2005.

Other popular shows on Heart include ‘Club Classics’ on Friday and Saturday evenings and Toby Anstis’s ‘Time Tunnel’.
