The 29 year-old from Pentrebychan, Flintshire, North Wales, read music at Queen's College, Oxford and then won a postgraduate scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music. During his studies Llyr won every possible prize, graduating in 2000 with a Dip RAM, the Academy's highest award.
