A recent addition to the Sky Movies package; the thriller Gone Girl is the latest drama from acclaimed director David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club).
Based on the novel by Gillian Flynn, who also wrote the screenplay, Gone Girl tells the story of a seemingly happy couple, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) and Amy Elliott-Dunne (Rosamund Pike). After Amy suddenly disappears, the outwardly normal life that Nick and Amy lead is exposed for not being as harmonious as it seemed, and Nick becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife. Despite protesting his innocence, could he have something to do with the disappearance of Amy?
Gone Girl is a great addition to the thriller genre. All aspects of the film fit perfectly together – the acting, script, directing, soundtrack, locations – all complement each other perfectly. As the narrative flows, leaving the viewer to decide what happened to Amy, you will be left on the edge of your seat as we discover the truth.
Gone Girl received critical acclaim when released, and Rosamund Pike was particularly praised for her performance as Amy, leading to a Best Actress nomination at the 87th Academy Awards. Rosamund Pike truly is the star of the film, and deserves all the praise she receives for her role as Amy.
Although standing at almost 2 hours and 30 minutes in length, the plot is so filled with intrigue and suspicion that at no point does the film feel too long in length. This has everything you would want out of a suspense film, so why not grab some friends and spend an evening in with Gone Girl sometime soon.
Gone Girl is available to watch on Sky Movies Crime and Thriller (Sky Channel 309, Virgin Media Channel 409) or to download from Sky On Demand.
