Zootropolis, or Zootopia as it was originally named back in the USA (why they felt the need to change the name I have no idea) is one of the films currently nominated for the Oscar for “Best Animated Feature”, where you get the feeling it will win.
Look, let’s be honest, the Oscar is going to be a two-horse race between this Disney film, and another Disney film, Moana. Yes, there is also the stop-motion film Kubo and the Two Strings which has won the BAFTA version of the same prize, but Disney is too big a giant to beat. There are also two other films, but there is no way the Oscars will pay attention to them because they’re foreign.
Zootropolis itself, set in a world populated by anthropomorphic animals, follows a rabbit police officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) who gets involves with a small-time fox con artist Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), who together try to investigate a series of disappearances in the titular city. It certainly has all the hallmarks of being an potential Oscar winner. Whether it will remains to be seen.
Zootroplis is on Sky Disney at 18.00.
