Our list contains reviews of the best horror movies you should watch if you haven’t already. However, note that some of these titles may not be available in your region. So, you may want to find another way to watch them. This article is regularly updated to include current horror movies while removing those that are no longer available on the major platforms. 

When pandemic shut down movie theatres, began collecting certified fresh and fresh horror movies bearing at least 20 reviews. Expect some familiar titles and some you may not have watched. This is an opportunity to refresh your list and update your movie database even as we wait for the much anticipated 2021 horror films. The Conjuring (2013)

This movie is based on a true story about real-life paranormal cases. The same cases led to other movie franchises like Annabelle. However, The Conjuring is a superb horror film with strong performances from its actors. It stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as co-stars.

The Block Island Sound (2020)

Starring actors are Matthew McManus and Kevin who come across a slow-burn thriller, chilling and strange. This mysterious force influences the wildlife and residents of Block Island. Things get more thrilling when a fisherman suffers violent outbursts and thereafter he puts his family in mortal danger unknown to him. 

The Conjuring 2 (2016)

The original actors are back for the scare-fest film as ghostbusters. The latest horror film in this franchise is Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021), which you can watch on HBO Max. It has interesting scares and the central mystery notable of this franchise. 

Zombieland (2009)

Zombies are a darling for most horror movie lovers. They provide occasional scares and constant dread that keep us at the edge of our seats.  Zombieland leans towards excellent comedy with the amazing startling encounters with undead.

Zombieland: Double Tap which is a sequel to the 2009 movie actually did some justice to the film. If you haven’t watched it, do so quickly because Netflix will be removing it from 31st July.

Crimson Peak (2015)

The movie is directed by Guillermo Del Toro. This is an old-school horror movie with some modern twist. It has an enchanting ghost story based in Gothic romance. The modern visual effects combined with great performances from actors like Tom Hiddleston and the incredible production is what makes this movie an excellent addition to our library.

His House (2020)

This is a unique horror film mainly focusing on some African refugees trying to adjust to a new life in an English town. However, evil lurks beneath the surface. It’s full of suspense and hair-raising scares.

Insidious (2010)

As the home of conjuring, this movie is a Blockbuster film. It’s based on a haunted house backstory which is invigorating considering the clever execution of its tight plot. Actors Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson are at the center of the plot where they move to a new home unknown to them that it’s haunted. Their son suddenly becomes a vessel for the trapped spirits. 

A sequel, Insidious 5 picks up from where this movie left 10 years after the conjuring events of Insidious: The Last Key. This film is definitely worth watching.

Shutter Island (2010)

This twisted psychological romp will leave you spinning in paranoia. The events take place in the cracked corridors of Shutter Island spooky psychiatric facility. Other notable actors are Mark Ruffalo and Michelle Williams.

The Guest (2014)

Based on a storyline featuring a mysterious stranger who visits a family pretending to be their son’s friend. The son died in combat in Afghanistan. The unsettling stranger has the killer look. Surely you must watch it. The soundtracks are knee-jerking. 

We Summon The Darkness (2019)

This horror film is a perfect blend of comedy and throwback horror. It’s based on some best friends who wrong some sadistic killers. The setting is in a rusty house party deep in the woods. Actors Maddie Hasson, Alexandra Daddario, Johnny Knoxville and Keean Johnston give a great performance.

Veronica (2017)

The horror film is based on a young girl who mysteriously died in Spain in 1991 after using a Ouija board. This chilling possession story will keep you at the edge of your seat. The household is invaded by demons after a certain ceremony. You have to watch it!

Nobody Sleeps In The Woods Tonight (2020)

This horror film is lively and chilling. It combines pop culture with sinister stalking and gruesome killings. The setting is in a rehabilitation camp deep in the forest and there is no internet access. Imagine being offline when in grave danger!

It Comes at Night (2017)

This is a horrifying horror film with great truths. Facing an evil you can’t see is far more terrifying than an evil you can actually see. Few films explore this option in their plots. The film is based on events occurring in a post-apocalyptic world in the midst of a global pandemic. A single family is really trying to stay alive with everything bad going on around them. They face oppressive darkness and great uncertainty of a plague engulfing their surroundings. Survivors face hair-raising horrors.

Conclusion

The horror films we focus on are those with time-tested reputation and have good review scores. These films explore different plots and screams in a good way. We are yet to list 2021 horror movies as they haven’t been widely released and most are in production.
