Absolutely Fabulous hasn’t been seen on our screens since 2004 but it seems that Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders will ride again, not only in a Christmas special planned for this year but in a feature length movie.
Ab Fab first appeared in 1992 to critical acclaim and ran for five series. It resurfaced in 2001 with its popularity still intact and ran for another four series despite flagging critical opinion.
If you’ve not seen an episode, it revolves around tantrum-throwing PR Guru Edina (Saunders) and her alcoholic best friend Patsy (Lumley) who are constantly having their messes cleaned up by Edina’s long-suffering daughter Saffon (Julia Sawalha).
Nothing’s confirmed at the moment but Deadline reports that the plot will involve the two of them waking up on a yacht with no mobile signal. Ab Fab on holiday? Doesn’t bode that well.
The BBC are hoping to lock in a deal after Lumley finishes working on The Spice Girls musical (!). Ah, that makes more sense now: Lumley’s gone insane.
