Akira On Hold Yet Again

Cinematic yoyo project Akira has had its wings clipped yet again. Heat Vision Blog report that Warners have stopped production on the anime classic so that more work can be done on the script.

This is after they recently trimmed the budget down from $300m to a more manageable £90m at the end of last year and director Jaume Collet-Sera had wrangled a cast including Tron Legacy’s Garret Hedlund, Helena Bonham Carter and Kristen Stewart.

All major studios have started to trim their sails recently, so it’s not a huge surprise and Akira does have notoriously dense plot that makes adapatations rather tricky. It’ll probably still get made – after all Warners have already pumped a lot of money into the project that they’re sure not want to go to waste.
