No, comic fans, not that Gambit. The Gambit we’re referring to is the remake of the Michael Caine/Shirley MacLaine crime caper which is rapidly filling up with great acting talent.
Already on board is Colin Firth who will play a master thief trying to con the richest man in England (Rickman – everybody “Snape, Snape, Severus Snape….”). To do this, he’ll need some help in the shape of a Texan rodeo queen (Cameron Diaz) but unsurprisingly, things don’t go quite according to plan. Veteran actor Tom Courtenay (Doctor Zhivago) has also signed on to play a character called The Major but there are no details yet as to what that role involves. Don’t mention the war perhaps?
“We are thrilled to have added two world class actors to our already formidable cast. Alan and Sir Tom are the perfect additions to this classic comedic heist,” producers Adam Ripp and Rob Paris said in a statement.
It might be a remake but it’s got the power of the Coen brothers behind the script and Michael Hoffman, the director of The Last Station in the director’s chair, so it’ll probably at least be half way decent.
