Tom Hooper’s ambituous big screen adaptation of the beloved musical Les Miserables is almost ready to start filming. There are just a few more roles to fill, two of which have been offered to Amanda Seyfried for Cosette and pop songstress Taylor Swift for Eponine according to Twitch.
For those not famliar with Les Mis, Cosette is the daugher of Fantine (Anne Hathaway) who is rescued and adopted by the protagonist Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman). She winds up in a love triangle with Marius (Eddie Redmayne) and Eponine (Swift).
There’s no official deals being struck at the moment but Seyfried at least makes sense. She’s a popular actress who has a background in opera so she’ll be able to belt out those musical numbers with the best of them, particularly if rumours are true that Hooper is intent on making the cast sing all their parts live instead of mouthing to backing tracks.
Swift meanwhile is known almost exclusively for her big voice with only an appearance in the ensemble cast of Valentine’s Day to her film CV (bleurgh). She’ll certainly bring big lungs to the screen but her acting chops have yet to be tested.
Shooting’s scheduled to start in February so Hooper’s leaving it a little bit late in the day to fiddle around with his main parts (ahem).
