Line of Duty leads this year’s BAFTA TV nominations, being up for four awards.
The crime drama is nominated for the awards for “Drama Series”, “Leading Actress” for Thandie Newton, “Supporting Actor” for Adrian Dunbar, and the “Must-See Moment”.
The last of these awards is the only award voted for by the public, with the show being up for Newton’s character Huntley having a “narrow escape”. Also nominated in this award are Blue Planet II for footage of a grieving whale; Doctor Who for revealing the identity of the 13th Doctor; Game of Thrones for the death of Viserion; Love Island for its guest appearance from Stormzy; and One Love Manchester for Ariana Grande’s performance.
Arguably one of the most controversial nominations was for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway which is up for the “Entertainment Programme” award despite Ant’s drink-driving charge. Also nominated are Britain’s Got Talent, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and The Voice UK.
A full list of nominations is on the BAFTA website. The ceremony, hosted by Sue Perkins, takes place on 13th May.
