BBC Picks Up Rights To Air Pan Am (It’s Set In The 60s!)

So The Hour has arrived and although it’s very entertaining, we’re all secretly gutted that it’s not.. you know.. the new Mad Men©!! But don’t worry folks, because there’s another show on the horizon that’s fate is surely to struggle under the weight of unrealistic comparison simply because it’s based in the same decade as Matthew Weiner’s AMC offering. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Pan Am.

Yes folks, if more proof were needed that the 1960s are very much en vogue, then it’s arriving in the form of the Beeb’s rabid eagerness to snap up this new American drama, set to focus on the employees of the famous US airline as air travel began to – ahem – take off fifty years ago, reports Broadcast.

The show, which will premiere in the US in September, features a cast including Christina Ricci, Mike Vogel and Kelli Garner. The BBC’s head of programme acquisition Sue Deeks claimed that the show is a “breath of fresh air”, before describing the series as a “colourful and stylish drama set in a captivating era that changed the world”. Sounds familiar..

The show will be hitting ABC in the states in September, so expect it to be touching down on these shores some time after that.
