Beavis And Butt-Head Are Back…And Still The Best

Tonight marks the small-screen the return of a TV comedy duo cut from the finest Nineties cartoon cloth: Beavis And Butt-Head are back.

The awkward college dropouts will be back to cast their discerning (and very squinty) eyes over everything that modern culture has to offer after returning last year from a 15-year-break. Presumably a very long Spring Break…?

The show originally ran for eight series between 1992 and 1997 and the lead characters also starred in the 1996 slapstick feature film Beavis And Butt-head Do America.

The show’s creator and writer, Mike Judge, has said that he plans to make two follow-ups to the upcoming series. The first episode sees the pair try to become brooding vampires in order to attract the girls at school. But when they confuse a homeless man with a werewolf, they end up being drowned in disease.

Judge – who is also the voice behind the inept pair – thinks his “old-school” cartoon about two troubled teens still stands up well against some of the more recent comedy cartoon offerings.

He said: “I think that Beavis And Butt-Head is more character-based than joke-based. I do happen to think it’s very funny, and there are a lot of jokes.

“But it’s not really ‘joke writing’. A lot of it is funny because of the way things are said, and the way the characters look, walk and talk. I would like to think the characters are pretty different than a lot of the other animated shows.

“There are shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill (which Mike also created) – which are all great shows – but they’re all about families, and Beavis And Butt-Head are not a family.

“So, it’s kind of like this old school Three Stooges-style.â€?

The new series begins tonight, Monday 16 April at 10pm on MTV, but you can check out a trailer for the new series below.
