Cumber, Cumber, Cumber, Cumberbatch! (To the ThunderCats theme tune). Ahem. Anyway, Benedict Cumberbatch has leapt aboard JJ Abrams’ Star Trek sequel. His exact role is being kept under wraps at the moment but The Hollywood Reporter have it that it’s for the role that Benicio Del Toro was being courted for.
Frankly, it’s about time that he was given some more prominent roles. He’s been ticking along quietly for a while now, with excellent performances in BBC’s Sherlock Holmes, a scene-stealing performance in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and will be providing the voice of the dragon Smaug in the forthcoming Hobbit film. Oh yeah, he’s also in War Horse, but you know, meh.
Noel Clarke has also been snapped up to play a family man with a wife and daughter according to Variety. He’s already done a little bit of sci-fi thanks to a stint as Mickey Smith in Doctor Who but this will probably be the most mainstream role to date for the star of Kidulthood and 188.8.131.52.
