Britain’s Got Talent has stormed into the TV ratings lead, beating Eastenders and Holby City to land a peak audience at one point of 10.5 million viewers for the second semi-final show. These ratings follow Monday’s show which attracted and unpredicted 13.5 million of us to tune in.
ITV bosses will no doubt be smiling as it also appears that the talent show is having a tsunami effect on other programmes on the channel, with Emmerdale at 7pm pulling in 6.9 million viewers and Coronation Street, sandwiched between the two Britain’s Got Talent shows, getting 10.2 million viewers at 9pm.
But it appears that these massive ratings aren’t enough to win over one of the judges, with Amanda Holden apparently throwing her toys out the pram because David Hasselhoff has a bigger dressing room than her. Perhaps it’s to fit in his ego following the Knightrider legend proclaiming last week that he heals people in his spare time.
Regardless of the usual spats between judges, the ratings will come as a relief to Simon Cowell, who’s been under the cosh recently for his role in a saga that can only be described as Cheryl-gate. Being booed at the start of BGT, Cowell has been pressured to reincorporate the Girls Aloud singer back into the new UK series of X Factor. However, these calls have obviously fallen on deaf ears, with the judging panel for the upcoming singing talent show being confirmed as Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland, and Tulisa Contostavlos. Time will tell whether or not the new line-up will attract the same ratings as last year’s series.
