Channel 4 enjoyed some of the highest ratings it’s seen this year, as My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas drew an impressive 5.11 million viewers on Tuesday. It was an early Christmas present for the channel, who gained a 20.5% share of the ratings that night. If you also include those for Channel 4+1, it means they were victorious in the 9pm time slot overall.
In contrast, BBC2’s documentary Money, saw just 1.9 million people tuning in, and ITV1’s My Child’s Not Perfect, fell even further behind with a rather dismal 1.7 million viewers.
A possible draw to My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas might have been Paddy Doherty, who after his victorious appearance on Celebrity Big Brother earlier in the year, returned to his gypsy roots. A Big Fat Ratings Winner!
Tuesday night continued to be a successful night for Channel 4, as the Shane Meadows drama sequel This Is England ’88 attracted an audience of 2.2 million viewers; which behind Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror, had the highest ratings for a drama launch on the channel this year.
