Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Shannon To Play Superman Villain

Michael-Shannon300Warner Bros may not be too sure about their choice of director for next year’s Superman revamp, but we think that giving Michael Shannon (that mean-looking fed from Boardwalk Empire) the role of General Zod could be a masterstroke. He’s probably a very nice bloke, but those eyes and that croaking accent freak us the hell out..

Shannon – who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Revolutionary Road – will be picking up from Terence Stamp, who played Superman’s nemesis in 1978’s Superman and the sequel which followed two years later.

“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman others don’t,” said Snyder after the news was announced yesterday.

“Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

The new Man of Steel film also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
