As the (almost) undisputed queens of comedy last year the film, starring Kristen Wiig, Matt Lucas and Don Cholodecki, has seen impressive DVD sales since its pre-Christmas release.
But not all the cast seem quite so happy to ride on the success of the Bridesmaids bandwagon.
“We aren’t working on that,” Wiig, who co-wrote the film with Annie Mumolo, tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“Annie and I aren’t planning a sequel. We are writing something else.”
Understandably, Universal boss Ron Meyer tried to woo Wiig back for a second outing with the nutty gang but it looks like the studio may have to go ahead without her.
“We are over the moon with the success of Bridesmaids, and if we do a sequel we want to get it right,” a spokesperson said.
“We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we’ll move forward.”
In the grand tradition of doomed and cringe worthy sequel disasters, it looks like Bridesmaids 2 could be a prime candidate – if the right team are not on board.
