Charlie Brooker is to return to television with a series of topical half-hour shows for BBC2.
The new series, which has a working title of Weekly Wipe, will feature a mix of news, TV, films and games as Brooker casts his acerbic eye over popular culture once again.
The series will feature a mix of monologues, sketches, studio guests and video insets, as well as regular contributions from US standup Doug Stanhope and Wipe staple Barry Shitpeas.
Brooker said: âEvery week we’ll be looking at TV, games, âthings in the etherâ?, the online world, and anything and everything in-between. And if we need to pad the show out a bit, we’ll probably review egg whisks too.â
The series, which will air in 2013, is set to kick off with a special Christmas edition called 2012 With Charlie Brooker, looking back at the main events of 2012 including the London Olympics, the Diamond Jubilee, the US election and Hurricane Sandy.
Guardian columnist Brooker recently confirmed a return to the Wipe format at the Edinburgh Television Festival and last year’s special, 2011 Wipe, earned Brooker and his producers a BAFTA nomination.
