Queen of schemes, Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), has announced that she will be quitting Albert Square in August for six months.
Instead of ruining lives, Janine will be taking to the dance floor in a bid to become the Strictly Come Dancing champion.
Buoyed by the success of a Christmas Strictly win, Brooks will be joining the likes of previous EastEnders dancing queens Kara Tointon and Jill Halfpenny if she makes it to the top.
Early indications show that rather than a prison spell (perhaps the more realistic option), Janine will be using the fact that she is âwith childâ? to explain her absence.
She said: “Baby. I think that’s about all I can say really as that’s all I know.
“I’ve got six months off in August so we’re having the bump, but I won’t have to deal with prams and stuff in extra small doors on the set.”
After winning the Strictly Christmas show, Charlie revealed she wanted to do the full series but needed time off from EastEnders execs before signing on the dotted line.
Speaking at the time, she said: “It would be fantastic to do the whole show but EastEnders is a six-days-a-week job. I’ve seen how difficult it is to juggle both but it would be an amazing opportunity.”
Last night an EastEnders spokeswoman confirmed: “Charlie will be taking a break from EastEnders later this year.
“Over the coming months there will be a lot of unexpected twists and turns and the story is bound to be explosive.”
No other names have yet been confirmed for the next series of the celebrity dance competition, but all will be revealed when Bruce and his glittery balls return in September.
