Aardman is working on a sequel to claymation classic Chicken Run, according to reports.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that StudioCanal and Pathe are on board with Aardman to make the movie. Among the people supposedly involved are Sam Fell (ParaNorman, Flushed Away) to direct, Paul Kewley (Shaun the Sheep Movie) to produce, original writers Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell are also doing the screenplay for the new movie, while Peter Lord and David Sproxton of Aardman will be executive producers.
Further details are scarce, but it is believed that film is most likely to go into production after Aardman has finished making the next Shaun the Sheep Movie, entitled Farmageddon.
The original Chicken Run, released back in 2000, tells the story of some chickens trying to escape their POW camp-style chicken farm, especially after they learn that the farm’s owner has decided to turn the chickens into pies. The film starred Julia Sawalha, Mel Gibson, Jane Horrocks and Miranda Richardson, while Aardman’s co-founder Nick Park was one of the directors.
Chicken Run still remains that most successful stop-motion animated film to date, earning $225million and getting a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
