Corrie Bad Boy Returns – After 43 Years Away

ITV have confirmed that Coronation Street’s original bad boy and Ken Barlow’s first bete noire will be returning to the cobbles on a six month contract in the Spring.

Dennis Tanner (played by 75 year-old Phillip Lowrie) left Weatherfield for Bristol in 1968, but viewers were kept up to date with his various exploits and aficionados will remember hearing of how he spent time in jail for conning OAPs some years back. Lowrie has had a notable career since then, appearing on television and stage many times.

The character, who appeared in the first ever episode as the tearaway son of Elsie Tanner, will only recognise Ken from his days on the Street and a soap insider told The Sun that Barlow senior won’t be pleased to see his adversary return to Manchester.

“Dennis’s return will throw the cat among the pigeons. Ken was always sparring with Dennis in the old days. They are still chalk and cheese. Dennis was involved in dodgy dealing, theft, fights and spent time in borstal. He was the bane of mum Elsie’s life.”
