There are solid news stories, speculative news stories and unfounded rumours, but you’ll probably need to take this article with a bucket of salt, because – wait for it.. according to The Express, Benedict Cumberbatch could soon be appearing as Doctor Who’s nemesis The Master.
Any basis for this story (apart from the fact that Cumberbatch is star of Steven Moffat’s other hit drama Sherlock and, you know ..it would be awesome if it was true) is pretty thin on the ground, but the paper have found an unnamed source to back their story up.
“It’s fitting that the Doctor comes face to face with his ultimate enemy, The Master, for the 50th anniversary and it’s felt Benedict is the perfect choice if schedules can work,” someone said. “Fans will love the idea of the man who plays Sherlock Holmes taking on the Doctor’’.
Whether The Master (who was most recently played by John Simm) will be returning for the next series of Doctor Who, which will mark the show’s 50th anniversary is unclear. Here’s hoping..
