Variety has it that it’s going to be in the style of Unforgiven rather than a direct historical narrative – whatever that means. Though given Aronofsky’s unconventional approach to film-making, it’d be more of a surprise if he didn’t do something a little off the beaten track.
It’s written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Tower Heist) with Aronofsky’s own Protozoa Pictures offering it to Paramount as per the terms of its first-look deal. If they pass, other studios will be welcome to take a punt and the interest’s likely to be high given that Aronofsky’s last, Black Swan, was a huge box office success.
Aronofsky himself is tied up with Noah, a Biblical tale with Russell Crowe in the lead role and also Judy Garland biopic Get Happy, so it’s as yet unclear where exactly The General will fit into his schedule.
