Davina Mccall has paid tribute to âBiggest Loserâ? trainer, Angie Dowds, following her shock death. Dowds, who appeared as the no-nonsense fitness instructor on ITVâs weight loss competition programme, was recovered from the base of a 535 ft-high cliff at Beachy Head on Sunday.
The tough-talking 42-year-old had appeared on the programme since 2005 along with personal trainer Richard Callender and host McCall. A message posted on McCall’s verified Twitter account read: “Rest in peace Angie Dowds @angechops. So so sad.”
It has been reported that Dowds had battled with durg and alcohol addiction in the past and continued to struggle with âher own personal demonsâ?.
Witnesses reported seeing a woman leap or fall from the top of the well-known suicide spot near Eastbourne, East Sussex, just after 4.30pm on Sunday.
Coastguards rescued her body from the cliff base about an hour later. Formal identification was carried out on Wednesday on Ms Dowds, the 2006 Personal Trainer of the Year Great Britain.
Paying tribute, Callender said: “As an individual Angie was always fiercely loyal to her friends and that same passion with which she loved was also the same passion that made her such a successful trainer, mentor and inspiration. She will be deeply missed.”
A spokesman for The Biggest Loser said: “Everybody at The Biggest Loser is shocked and devastated by the news of Angie’s death. Angie was a dedicated trainer and a part of the show for four series and our thoughts and prayers go to her family and friends at this time.”
