Del Toro To Oversee Day Of The Dead Animation

Guillermo Del Toro’s next project will see him make a return to his Mexican roots as overseer of animated film, Day Of The Dead.

Despite sharing its name with the Georeg A. Romero zombie classic, this film has nothing to do with staggering undead types.

Co-written and directed by Jorge R Gutierrez, the brain behind Nickelodeon show El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, the film will tell a Romeo and Juliet-esque story of love and loss. And it’s all set on the Mexican holiday known as Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, music will be taking centre stage in the film which is scheduled for a 2014 release. The whole team is working hard to compile an “international who’s who” for the all-important soundtrack.

His last release, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark, may have left critics lukewarm but this next more adventurous is sure to inspire more enthusiastic discussion. For better or worse.

Lest we forget, the bearded movie-maker is already busy making massive monster adventure film Pacific Rim, which will hit claw its way onto screens in 2013. Further proof that there really is no rest for the wicked.
