Denise Van Outen: The Saviour of Channel 5?

We went down to see Live From Studio 5 being recorded a couple of months back and despite being much kinder than we could have been about the dog’s dinner of a show, the execs refused to talk to us again because we dared to question how long it could keep going. But it seems that our (and everyone else’s) suspicions that the good ship LFS5 was taking on water like your average Haciendá patron were well founded because the show was unceremoniously dumped recently.

The phrase ‘anything would be better’ is often over-used, but on some occasions it doesn’t go far enough. That BBC test-card would have been an improvement on the efforts of Kate Walsh & Co, so national treasure and Big Breakfast legend Denise Van Outen should have no problem brightening the afternoon slot up.

OK! TV kicks-off on Monday 14th February and Van Outen will be joined by This Morning‘s Matt Johnson. The show will apparently involve “a mix of interviews, features from the world of celebrity, music and fashion, plus gossip and plenty of banter.” There’s that word again..

“I have a huge appetite for all things showbiz so this show is right up my street,” said Denise. “I’m really looking forward to working with Matt too and we can’t wait to show the viewers what we’ve got in store.”

Her co-host was also visibly excited at the prospect of working with Van Outen. “I think Denise and I are going to have a lot of fun together,” he said as he checked his breath and reached for the deodorant. “I’ve long been an admirer of her presenting style and know we’ll get along like a house on fire.”

The station’s Head of Factual (yes, that’s right, ‘Factual’) Andrew O’Connell, said: “‘OK! TV’ is set to become a key part of the Channel 5 schedule. Denise and Matt’s refreshing and no-holds-barred take on the world of entertainment news will be a breath of fresh air.”
