Anyone could have predicted that Johnson Beharry would be one of the most popular Dancing On Ice contestants ever (after all, the bloke is a bonafide war hero..) but few would have predicted that there would be a movie of his life in the works before the series ended.
According to The Sun, the Victoria Cross winner is already in talks with producers and Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel is being tipped as the man to bring Beharry’s story to life.
“There is serious talk about a movie. I’ve had several approaches,” he told the tabloid. “There is talk the kid from Slumdog Millionaire could play me. I am going to stand back and let them decide what will work.”
“I would be excited if it tells my story. It is about raising awareness for injured people – and it is mainly young people who get injured. I visit a lot of them to try to inspire them and say, ‘Look what I have achieved’.”
The serviceman, of 1st Battalion, the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, suffered severe injuries in two attacks in Iraq in 2004. He remembers the first in May that saw him rescue colleagues after the armoured vehicle he was driving was hit by rocket-propelled grenades.
But Johnson has little recollection of the second incident in June, in which his vehicle came under attack and he suffered further injuries. Once again he showed incredible strength and drove his comrades to safety.
