E.T has topped a poll by education charity Filmclub to find the most powerful moment in film.
Beating off competition from the likes of Rocky’s big fight scene and poor little Bambi’s mum dying, the moment when E.T says his emotional farewells was crowned the most powerful screen moment by 2,000 movie fans.
Among the E.T votees were Matt Lucas, Oscar-winning producer Gareth Unwin (The King’s Speech) and Ugly Betty star Ashley Jenson, who all agreed that E.T’s powerful parting words “I’ll be right here” as he touches Elliot’s head with his glowing finger deserved the title for most powerful moment.
Completing the top ten were – among others – Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid for the besieged cowboys scene, the Wizard Of Oz for Dorothy’s door opening moment where her world turns from black and white to colour, and Battle Ship Potemkin for the ‘Odessa Steps’ massacre.
The poll was carried out for Filmclub’s Power of Film campaign which will host screenings and discussions in schools.
