In what sounds like a belated April Fool’s joke, Aaron Eckhart, Sean Bean and AnnaSophia Robb have signed up for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pan, the story of Peter Pan blended with a work of detective fiction.
Ben Hibon who worked as the animation director for Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 but who has mainly worked with games such as Heavenly Sword and Killer 7 will be behind the camera. The story will see Eckhart as Hook, the Captain Hook character reinvented as a former police detective on the trail of a child-like kidnapper. Robb will play Wendy, a girl who survived an attack by the kidnapper who leaves an asylum in order to help the hunt.
Bean (currently where he should be – in armour on a rain-swept battlefield in Game Of Thrones) has been cast as Smee, the chief detective and Hook’s only ally on the force.
Essential Entertainment has dragged the project to Cannes where it’s hoping to sell the pre-sales in order to secure an October shoot.
Sounds utterly mental and we can’t wait. Other suggestions for warped adaptations: Winnie The Pooh as a Film Noir, The NeverEnding Story as a psychological thriller and My Girl as a silent arthouse flick.
