Eddie Murphy To Host The Oscars?

The Oscars are usually dished out in February but producers Brett Ratner and Don Mischer are already scouting for a possible host with the spotlight focusing on the unlikely choice of Eddie Murphy.

But what have you done for me lately?

While Murphy is used to performing in front of a live audience, he hasn’t done stand up for over 20 years and has limited experience hosting events.

He did however make his name as a stand-up comic and this might be the just the chance that Murphy needs to dust off his quick-fire skills. He was arguably never funnier than when he did he was on stage and really he hasn’t made a critically successful film for nigh-on 20 years (although the money did role in after those godawful Doctor Dolittle movies). Oh yeah, Shrek was pretty good too.

Rumours have also been circulating that Murphy’s looking to make a return to stand-up and what better way to get back on the horse than to perform in front of an audience of millions.

Adding a bit more credibility to the rumour is that he’s currently starring in Tower Heist directed by Brett Ratner, so he’s currently on the director’s radar.

There’s plenty of time to make a decision though as the Oscars won’t be here till February 26th next year.
