Ewan McGregor Signs For New HBO Drama

Things have been a bit quiet for Ewan McGregor lately. He hasn’t had to strip off on-screen for at least two years and his motorbiking antics appear to have choked and died.

But the British star is the latest dazzler set to join the constellation of stellar actors associated with HBO’s latest project, The Corrections.

Dianne West (Edward Scissorhands, Synedoche, New York) and Chris Cooper (American Beauty, The Town) have already signed on thedotted line and movie legend Anthony Hopkins is also rumoured to be involved.

Based on Jonathan Franzen’s award-winning novel about the troubled lives of an elderly Midwestern couple, McGregor is set to play Chip, a Marxist academic working for a Lithuanian mafia boss defrauding American investors.

Alright – so it does sound a bit intense – but with Noah Baumbach (Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Fanatstic Mr Fox) at the helm, and Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Hours) at his side, this is sure to be a slick and engrossing production.

Franzen’s award-winning novel is being adapted for television by the cable channel behind Boardwalk Empire and Game Of Thrones. We smell another HBO success story.
