First Look At Daniel Day-Lewis As Lincoln

Here is a first glimpse of Daniel Day-Lewis preparing for his upcoming role as Abraham Lincoln, in the biopic directed by Stephen Spielberg.

The basis for Spielberg’s film is said to be the biography Team Of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln; by Pulitzer Prize winning historian Doris Kearns. Other actors involved in the project are Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

It is no surprise that there is already a striking a resemblance, with Day-Lewis sporting the iconic beard and hairstyle that is so synonymous with Lincoln. A veteran of method-acting, his preparation has become legendary. Previous examples of this include the actor tattooing his hands and training over a period of two years to be a fighter for The Boxer.

He also caught pneumonia during the filming of Gangs of New York after refusing to wear warmer clothing on set because it had not existed during the movie’s time period.

The actor is set to become fully immersed in the role during the upcoming months, with movie-fans eagerly anticipating the release of the movie in late 2012.
