Game of Thrones Scores Record Ratings For Sky Atlantic

We’ve been scooting around the internet all morning and we still haven’t managed to find a bad review of last night’s opening episode of Game of Thrones(..You can read a very good one here..) we weren’t surprised when Sky Atlantic announced that the show had scored record ratings yesterday evening.

The big-budget HBO spectacular starring Sean Bean averaged 743,000 viewers between 9pm and 10.10pm, with a peak of 823,000.

These figures beat the previous record, believed to be held by episode 1 of Boardwalk Empire, which averaged 438,000 on its opening night.

Industry experts are putting the figures down to the fact that the fantasy drama adapted from the novels of George R.R Martin screened in the UK just a day after it was premiered in America. Boardwalk Empire hit screens in the US a couple of months before appearing on Sky Atlantic in February, meaning that opportunities were rife.

The Guardian report that Game of Thrones‘ figures are likely to be around 50% higher when viewing on timeshifted viewing on Sky+ is taken into account.
