R-Patz And Garfield Shortlisted For Akira

Akira300News has been trickling through for months about the forthcoming live-action Akira remake. The Hughes Brothers (From Hell, The Book Of Eli) are still in the big chair but according to Deadline thanks to a script by Steve Kloves (he of Harry Potter fame), things are actually getting moving with Warners batting around some casting ideas with Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy wanted for the big roles.

They’re all under consideration for the role of Tetsuo, a biker gang member whose psychic powers get unleashed with deadly consequences, while Tron Legacy‘s Garret Hedlund, the ever-reliable Michael Fassbender (next to be seen in X-Men First Class as a young Magneto), Star Trek‘s Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix are being considered for his best friend Kaneda.

Deadline think that it’ll be one of those names that fit the bill, which is quite likely considering they’re all well known actors that has been proven to draw a crowd. We’ll have more news as it arrives.
