Gypsies Got Talent

As the nation’s obsession with everything gypsy inspired continues to snowball out of hand, the latest announcement has been ‘a huge event’ that will borrow from the structure of Britain’s Got Talent, entitled, Traveller’s Got Talent. You can’t hide from the fact that it has a catchy title if nothing else.

Growing from the Sussex based talent show last summer, where hundreds of performers from Romanian and Irish roots clambered onto the stage to showcase their traveller talent, it has been announced that TV bosses are now interested in transforming it into a larger scale event.

Organised by Jake Bowers, from the Gypsy Media Company – yes, they have their own media company – he has revealed there has been keen interest from tvland head honchos.

Speaking to the Daily Star, he has stated that, “Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities are perceived to be guilty of many things, but capable of nothing.â€?

“They have all demonstrated that Gypsy, Roma and Traveller young people, in particular, have talents, skills and abilities that are largely unrecognised by the world beyond their communities.”

Channel 5 has confirmed no current action but a spokesperson is quoted as, “We have no plans to develop a show of this nature. But we can’t say what is going to happen in the future.”

But in this day and age we have a hundred other channels to rely on to pick it up.

Bring on those dancing, singing Gypsies.
