Orson Scott Card’s beloved sci-fi novel Ender’s Game is inching closer to development with the casting process now in full swing. Hugo’s Asa Butterfield has signed on for the title role and now True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations for a slot too.
She’s down for the role of Petra Arkanian, one of the fighters recruited by Earth to battle against a deadly insect race (no this isn’t Starship Troopers). She’ll meet Ender in The Battle School where kids are divided into groups and pitted against each other to test their mettle (anyone that’s ever been to public school can probably sympathise). She ends up helping Ender even when he joins a rival team.
The producers, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are also looking for an actor to play Colonel Hyrum Gruff (clue’s in the name folks), the head trainer of the Academy. Viggo Mortensen passed but it has been offered to Harrison Ford…
Ender’s Game will be on March 29th 2013 even though production hasn’t even started. More news as we get it.
