Star of TV show Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, is doing more than entertaining the kids these days.
The fifteen year old actress has had to apologise for a highly controversial photo shoot for Vanity Fair in which she is swathed in nothing but a sheet.
The shots were taken by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, who has photographed many of the world’s most famous faces.
However Miley says “I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and i apolologise to my fans who I care so deeply about.”
While this is what Miley is saying today, word has it that she and her parents saw the photos after the shoot and had no problem at all with them, leaving Vanity Fair and Annie Leibovitz surprised at the hubub.
Commentators suggest that the similarity to the scandal created when High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens had some private nude photo’s leaked has made Disney go into overdrive to protect their wholesome image. Hannah Montana is currently the top rated Disney show and the ratings within its target audience of 6 to 14 year olds is second only to American Idol.
Disney have come out with guns blazing and had this to say about the shoot: “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a fifteen year old in order to sell magazines”.
Vanity Fair had this to say: “Miley’s parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally , they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural protrait of Miley.”
