It is an odd career move for someone who has won two Oscars in the past for dramatic roles in films Boys Don’t Cry and Million Dollar Baby, but when you take into consideration her most recent career mishaps such as The Resident and The Reaping, maybe it’s not so odd a move after-all.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Swank said, “I remember working with Richard LaGravenese on two films back to back and he said to me, ‘You’re one of the funniest people I know and I wouldn’t have guessed that.”
“I understand why people, when they think of me, might think of drama. That’s what I’m well known for, but it doesn’t bother me at all.
I love doing drama, and it’s just nice to be known for something! I feel blessed to have had the opportunities that I’ve had.”
And her dreams may come true as she has a role in the ensemble cast for Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve. Whether it will be funny for the right reasons or funny because its reaches new heights of rubbish is currently unknown. But basing it on Marshall’s last effort, Valentine’s Day, it may be safe to opt for the latter.
