Huge Trekkie Convention Hits London

All five Star Trek captains from the show’s half-century of broadcasting appeared at the UK’s first official Star Trek convention for more than ten years.

The event broke the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of fans dressed as Star Trek characters and also played host to the UK’s first Klingon wedding.

Hundreds of the many fans who attended also payed £95 to attend a question and answer session with the five captains – Kirk, Picard, Janeway, Sisko and Archer – who’ve only ever been in the same room together once before. According to the BBC, this makes it a rarer occurrence than having five U.S. President together.

For some, however, this wasn’t enough and VIP tickets, allowing fans to spend time with the stars, were being sold for £3,000.

The highlights of the first day of the convention include William Shatner obliging a woman who “brought out her left breast to be signedâ€?, and Sir Patrick Stewart singing Happy Birthday to a fan.
