Shrek director Andrew Adamson has lined up his next project after The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian – an adaptation of the Booker prize-shortlisted Mister Pip. Not only that but according to Deadline, he’s locked down Hugh Laurie for the lead role.
Laurie will play Mr Watts, a teacher stationed on the island of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea. After civil unrest causes every other teacher to flee, he is left as the last white man on the island and begins to read Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations to the children, who become fascinated by its protagonist.
It’s filming in New Zealand next month and will be released after Laurie’s forthcoming projects, the romantic comedy The Oranges and Aardman/Sony CG animation Arthur Christmas.
