The Hunger Games director Gary Ross will not be directing the sequel but he has found a new project in the shape of a film planned by Summit Entertainment about renowned escapologist Harry Houdini.
Summit have had the rights to the book by William Kalush and Larry Sloman’s book The Secret Life Of Houdini, The Making Of America’s First Superhero since 2009 but now it seems they’ve finally found the director for the job. It certainly sounds interesting – the authors postulate that Houdini was actually an undercover operative who worked with British Intelligence.
The Hollywood Reporter has it that Houdini is to be painted as a cross between Indiana Jones and Sherlock Holmes. I get a distinct League Of Extraordinary Gentleman vibe off this…
Noah Oppenheimer wrote the last draft of the script, but Gary Ross is known for tinkering, so he may well just do that before getting underway.
Funnily enough, the director in charge of The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire already has his own Houdini project in the works…Fight!
