Ice Cube is currently negotiating with New Line Cinema to write, produce and star in a new instalment of the Friday franchise.
With almost ten years since the third film, Ice Cube is poised to reprise his role as Craig Jones, who has fought off bullies, gangsters and mallrats in the franchise history. Each of the three previous films has had a different director, and it’s rumoured that this one will see Cube stepping behind the camera.
Tiny Lister, who played DeBo in the first two, broke the story to TMZ saying that Chris Tucker took him up in his private jet to discuss a comeback to the franchise. While Tucker stole the show in the 1995 original as pot-enthusiast Smokey, he refused to return in any sequels due to religious reasons. Those hang-ups may be alleviated when Tucker and Cube meet to discuss the fourth instalment next week.
According to Lister, he and Tucker also discussed a sequel to the 1997 sci-fi hit The Fifth Element. There’s still no title for the next Friday film, but given the other titles, we’re thinking something like Three Fridays From Now.
