The first details of the next series of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s comic anthology series Inside No. 9 have been revealed.
A preview image has shown that one episode will be in a changing room of a football ground, with David Morrissey playing a referee and Ralf Little a linesman. Pemberton and Shearsmith appear to be the other assistant referees.
Other guest stars announced include Jenna Coleman, Phil Davis, Tom Goodman-Hill, Jill Halfpenny, Ioanna Kimbook, Kadiff Kirwan, Dipo Ola, Maxine Peake, Debbie Rush, Steve Speirs and Fionn Whitehead.
Shearsmith and Pemberton have said: “We’re delighted to announce a guest cast brimming with both emerging and established talent, all judiciously chosen to make us look a bit classier by association.”
Pemberton will also be directing one of the episodes, having previously directed the episodes “Cold Comfort” and “Nana’s Party”. Three of the six episodes will be directed by Guillem Morales and the other two by Matt Lipsey.
Inside No. 9’s new series comes in the aftermath of winning more awards. The series was named “Comedy of the Year” and “Best Comedy Drama” in the 2018 Comedy.co.uk Awards, following on from winning both prizes the year before, and thus becoming the first series to win both awards in successive years.
