ITV Recommission A Host Of Cop Shows

There might be more police dramas on ITV than there are adverts these days, but the channel has ordered second runs for the ones that proved popular with crime-hungry audiences.

Scott & Bailey was well received by both viewers and critics when it debuted earlier this year and the drama starring Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp regularly pulled in eight million viewers. A second series is expected to start filming this autumn.

There was also good news for ITV’s other lady detective as Vera is set for four more two-hour specials. The broadcaster also announced Case Sensitive and James Nesbitt’s medical series Monroe would be returning.

The announcement will be seen another sign of ITV’s drive to improve their original drama content, the standard of which has taken a marked up-turn in the last twelve months. Hit drama Downton Abbey is set to return in Winter 2012 to take away our post-Christmas blues.. (Hurrah!)
