Much-maligned ITV crime drama Vera, starring Brenda Blethyn as Geordie detective DI Vera Stanhope, is in line to get a second series according to the Guardian.
Despite much criticism, the series (which has been adapted from the Vera Stanhope novels by Ann Cleeves) has been nominated in the Best New Drama category in the TV Choice Awards, and has proved to be a success for the broadcaster, pulling in an average of 5 million viewers for its first two episodes.
ITV has confirmed plans for the second series stating that scripts are currently in the development stage, but has yet to confirm that the show has been officially recommissioned. Should it return it is likely that the series will be comprised of four two-hour episodes.
The first series which has been panned by just about everybody (with the exception of our very own Nathan Rodgers) is due to conclude this Sunday evening at 9pm.
