Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley are facing the chop from struggling breakfast show Daybreak. According to reports, the pair were told they may no longer be needed during a meeting with âruthlessâ? ITV chief Peter Fincham.
A new producer and editor have been brought in to try to turn around the showâs increasingly dire ratings and criticisms of its overly âlightweightâ? material.
To complete the bonfire of the presenters, part-time host Kate Garraway is also said to be on her way out. In a bid to inject some serious talent into the mix, bosses are thought to be considering former Sky News star Helen Fospero to replace her as partner to Dan Lobb, 39.
They may even be hoping that BBC Breakfastâs Sian Williams will cross over to the dark side; she will be leaving the morning show when it relocates to new studios in Manchester next year. Daybreak has seen viewers fall to around 700,000 â around half of its BBC morning rival.
An ITV spokesman said: âDaybreak is still in the process of transitioning into the daytime department. We are continuing to develop the show.â? The station refused to confirm Chiles and Bleakleyâs departure.
A spokesman said: âOur line is Adrian and Christine are the presenters of Daybreak.â?
Ooh touchy much?
Chiles, 44, has been labelled too grumpy while Bleakley, 32, has failed to connect with morning viewers. The pair were poached from the Beebâs hit One Show for a combined £2.8million-a-year salary less than two years ago. Someone needs to get these two some humble pie – stat.
