Jake Abel First Choice For The Host

Jake Abel is the latest name attached to the upcoming Stephanie Meyers (for non-vampire fans, she wrote Twilight) adaptation, The Host.

Though nothing official has been announced, Abel (Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief, I Am Number Four) is director Andrew Niccol’s number one choice to play Ian, one of the few humans left fighting against invading “souls” that are conquering the planet.

Niccol, who was behind the camera for the recent sci-fi thriller In Time, has already cast Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, Hanna) as the lead, Melanie Stryder. Melanie’s emotions and memories are so strong that when a “soul” tries to take her over, it becomes intertwined with its human host and fights against the race’s plan to take over earth.

Abel and Ronan have previously worked together in 2009’s The Lovely Bones. Niccol hopes to begin shooting for The Host in February.
