Avatar director James Cameron has reportedly predicted that all movies will be made in 3D in the near, dystopian future.
Like the demise of black and white films in the wake of technicolour, Cameron said that 3D will be “ubiquitous” in the next few years, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Speaking at the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas, he said: “”Broadcasting is the future of 3D. Everything will be produced in 3D and 2D versions will be extracted from that.”
“Our strategic plan is to make 3D ubiquitous over the next five to ten years on all platforms.”
This comes after news Cameron wants to shoot Avatar 2 at more than double the standard frame rate, to give viewers a heightened sense of reality. “If 3D is like looking at reality through a window”, he said, “we’ve taken the glass out of the window.”
