Disney have been doing some juggling of late, pushing back Monster’s Inc prequel Monsters University to 2013 and inserting Reboot Ralph into its place. It’s really started moving now though with a new title – Wreck-It Ralph – and a voice cast that includes John C. Reilly, Glee‘s Jane Lynch, 30 Rock’s Jack McBrayer and Sarah “I’m fucking Ben Afleck” Silverman.
It’ll be directed by Rich Moore who certainly knows his way around animation having directed many episodes of The Simpsons and Futurama. It tells the story of Wreck-It Ralph, a villain in an old school arcade game who goes up against the hero Fix-It Felix (McBrayer). But Ralph thinks there should be more to life than plotting evil schemes and desperately want to be a hero.
“I love the idea of a very simple 8-bit video game character struggling with the complex question: ‘isn’t there more to life than the role I’ve been assigned?’ Moore said in a statement.
His chance comes when a new generation of game featuring Sergeant Calhoun (Lynch) arrives and he tries to do the right thing. But instead he inadvertently unleashes a vicious enemy that could destroy all the games and has to team up with racing game glitch Vanellope von Schweetz (Silverman) to truly be a hero.
It’s pencilled in for a November 12 US release next year so we’ll probably get to see it…oh I don’t know…about six months after that.
