Yarr. Scurvy scallywagg Johnny Depp is in talks to star in a fifth instalment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. That’s not exactly shocking news given that On Stranger Tides has made over $1 billion at the international box office.
Depp had previously said that while he enjoys playing the character of Captain Jack Sparrow that he might take a bit of time out before prancing about on the seven seas to give audiences time to breathe. However, it looks like the lucrative box office returns have prompted the great money-powered beast of Disney to move into action.
According to The Wrap, a draft of the new script has been written (probably by series veteran Tony Rossio) and producer Jerry Bruckheimer is said to be in meetings to see if they can get Depp to sign again. Well, Depp got paid $55 million for the last out; it wouldn’t really be a surprise if he decides to become the rum-sozzled swashbuckler for a fifth time.
For now Depp is busy shooting The Lone Ranger, so filming won’t begin anytime this year. We’ll have to wait and see if Depp can be tempted back from shore leave.
